Being one of the cities in Europe with a long history, and the capital of Yugoslavia before the breakup, in Belgrade there are a lot of beautifully designed buildings. But many tourists find the most amazing part is that they kept a couple of buildings that were bombarded by NATO in 1999 to force Serbia to withdraw from Kosovo. One of the new friends I made from this group tour is a lady from China, who asked me if I would be interested to see the Chinese Embassy that was bombed by the US in the same year, 1999, during Clinton's time. When we asked people including a policeman for direction, they didn't know that the embassy had been demolished about 2 or 3 years ago. When we finally reached the destination, we just saw a big lawn, with a simple sign on which some
Chinese characters were already missing (photo 31 - 32). The sign says Serbia is sincerely grateful for the support and help from China at their most difficult time, and expresses sorrow for the Chinese people who lost their lives in this bombing.....
