Johnson Lake.jpg

Today we stopped at Banner Marsh on the way to Thompson Lake. This photo was taken at Banner Marsh. It turned out there was nothing to photograph at Thompson's Lake, which was not why we went anyway. Thompson's Lake is not a lake. It was a 10,000+ acre wetland once. But it was drained and farmed for the last 50 or so years. Now the Native Americans are slowly purchasing this farm one parcel at a time. As they purchase it they turn off the pumps keeping the water out. One day it will be a wetland again and they will allow the public to use parts of it. I did see a flock of around 100 geese and another of 60 or so geese, so the area is getting some use again. Banner Marsh is having something similiar occur only the state purchased the additional land and it is open to the public.

THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE YESTERDAY MORNING IN DETROIT. TWENTY-FOUR HOURS LATER, I HAD 8" OF NEW SNOW BLOCKING MY DRIVEWAY. NICE PICTURE.

Beautiful scenic and how wonderful of the Indians to return it to its natural state.
