Sometimes instead of good photos pad photos are a life in the day of. This comes with a story. Whiskey is stored and aged in a rickhouse. It gets it flavor from the char in the barrel and from the weather. The weather expands and contracts the volume of the whiskey drawing flavor from the barrel. The older it is when bottled the better the taste (usually). Still there is only so much space. So a Bottle in Bond (4 year) and the beginning of the better whiskeys is 4 years old. A bottle of 23 year has aged 5 times as long. The limited space has to earn an income which is why the 23 year bourbons are high in the price range. What has been done is some the barrels have been tasted and then this barrel was selected as the best. Every barrel in the rickhouse has a different flavor as the weather temp changes are not that same in every part of the building. The bottle of Willet says 113 of 129. They got 129 bottles from this barrel. That is all there is the whole world. Some lower proof bottles they will more from a barrel as water is added to it to lower the proof (which may improve the flavor or not). The Traverse City bottles are 44 and 80 of 209. The Knob Creek 14 year actually tells which rickhouse and where the barrel this bottle came from. Which is important for people who buy single bottle bourbon. Each barrel will have a different flavor. Because usually there are around 200 bottles per barrel, these best barrels are rare. It involves a camp out to be the first in line to have an opportunity to pay a few hundred dollars for a bottle of Bourbon. Friday night we got there are 4PM and were 8th and 9th in line as others were waiting. Saturday morning at 10:15, the doors opened and my wife and I each got 3 bottles of special Bourbons. Barrels and Brews in Nolensville is owned by Justin and James who have spent years picking barrels and have a reputation for their great barrel picks. The store had a soft opening 3 weeks ago with 31 different barrel picks from different distilleries. As often we have to camp out at distilleries to get this quality of bourbon, it is Bourbon Heaven to have all the choices in one place. And that is how we spent our weekend and why no photo yesterday. Retired people have time for new hobbies.

I enjoyed the photo and the story both. I'm sure you enjoyed the bourbon even more.
