Bijapur

Bijapur is a small historic town in the southern state of Karnataka,India.Its well known for its historic remains of the Adilshahi dynasty (1489 to 1686 A.D.).The place is filled with beautiful tombs.Photographs below are of two such famous tombs.The Golgumbaz and Ibrahim roza.Ibrahim Roza is said to be the inspiration for the Taj Mahal.Golgumbaz,with its second largest hemispherical dome in the world,is renowned for its marvellous acoustics.The whispering gallery on top on the dome,echoes every sound faithfully,11 times,and that's even the smallest of whispers.Its amazing to see it work. I have always found these stately pieces of architecture to have a serene and 'lost in time' kind of atmosphere .You genuinely feel a sense of 'time stood still'.It can get a wee bit eerie at times ! Good pics. Bijapur now Vijayapur is indeed a city of great monuments. All citizens of this town should request the government to do something to popularise this town. The city lacks proper facility for foreign tourists. The Karnataka state tourism department has a very shabby office near the stadium, where no proper information is given. They should think of package tours covering Vijayapur, Almatti, Badami and Kudal Sangamesh.

Nice Pics, Well Bijpaur is one of the old city of India.. One cannot forget its world famouse monuments and green gardens. Whole City is full of such wonderful monumnets. One can realize the how our elders have spent life in past. May be when we visit & study more then we may really thrilled about the planning / maintaining the infratsurture in older days. Also its pleasure to see rare architectures in the world.

Bijapur is my FIRST LOVE ! I have spent my childhood in Bijapur, thats why this place is very special to me. Indeed Bijapur is a Masterpeice in itself, but the way you have captured it is simply OUTSTANDING !

ITS WONDERFUL PLACE TO STAY.ITS A VERY CALM PLACE WITHOUT ANY COMMUNAL DIFFERENCES.PEOPLE HERE ARE VERY AFFECTIONATE .THE VEGETABLES WE GET AT BIJAPUR ARE REALLY VERY GOOD AND FRESH.ITS A PLACE TO LIVE LIKE A KING/QUEEN.

Dear All, I am also from Bijapur.I love this city from bottom of my heart.I always love and admire these beautiful and wonderful monuments.I love the people and culture of this city.I did my schooling from KBS No.4 and High scool from PDJ Highschool 'B' in 1978 and I did my Diploma in Electrical Engineering in 1980. I worked in India from 1980 to 1990 in all parts of the country and left to Saudi Arabia(Jubail & Dammam) in 1991 and was there up till 1995. From 1996 to till date I am working for Govt linked company in Singapore.Currently posted in Oman on a project assignment and working as Manager(Electrical)on projects division.This city of my birthplace has given me enough glory in my career and I salute this city. hi deepak - i do not know whether u r bijapurian. it is good thing that uhave gallary of bijapur . due to governmental neglect and short sightedness lot of histroical buildings are deterioting. some of concerned citizens of bijapur have taken steps to be back of burucrates and we have with us a DVD/CD containing 295 sites of bijapur. We are also trying to get Golbumaz to be on World Heritage sites. can u and concerned people who have posted their feelings of help to us. thnks ---PS CDS ARE VAILABLE FREE TO PEOPLE WHO DESIRES TO BE PART OF OUR GROUP.
