We arrived in Barcelona at noon after a sleepless night and a plane delay. Knackered. |
Outside the Gothic Point Hostel. A great hostel, good location, great atmosphere. |
 Inside the hostel. |
Barcelona is quite a big city. 2 days was not enough to explore it. |
We looked forward to some scorching sunshine to tan our pasty English skin. Nup. |
 |
There were 6 of us.... Us, Jarrod, Tia, Al and Heather. All of us (but Julie) worked with each other at a casino in London. |
On the bridge looking towards Las Ramblas, a half mile long pedestrian area. |
Buskers galore, loads of market stalls and cafes. It took us more than 2 hours to walk it. |
Sweeeeeeeets. We didn't buy any as there were millions of flies swarming over them. Honestly! |
Whooooooo. Michael Jackson impersonator. And very, very good. |
 |
At the top of Las Ramblas was a square with more fountains than you could poke a stick at. Spain has an obsession with them. |
 Rest time. |
Us in front of La Segrada Familia, the church which has been in construction on and off since 1882.... |
.... and not due to be finished until 2026. |
 The detail was incredible. |
The artist Antoni Gaudi designed it as well as many other buildings in Barcelona. |
 |
 Views from the top. |
 |
 |
 Long way down...... |
 Another Gaudi building. |
And Jas and Min make their first appearance in front of yet another Gaudi masterpiece. |
 A street of Barcelona. |
We hired a people mover to drive to Valencia, 350kms south of Barcelona. |
 Rural Spain. |
 |
Us in Valencia in front of another fountain. (without Al who was incredibly sick and missed 3 out of 4 days in Spain) |
In the Valencia town square. Nice place and soooo cheap. About 3 bucks 50 for a 6pack of San Miguel Beer! |
Hitting the Valencian night life in a cool bar that served wicked Sangria. Ole! |
The morning of the La Tomatina festival. |
Following the crowd to the main street of a tiny town named Bunol. |
We made our own t shirts for the occasion. Others were dressed in sumo outfits, ballerinas, men in womens clothing....... |
We had 6 waterproof cameras between us. |
Waiting for the action to begin.... meanwhile the townspeople drenched us with water from their roof and balconies. |
People got really pushy as the time came nearer. |
 Yeah. |
And the trucks came rolling in dumping tonnes of tomatoes along the street. |
 |
5 trucks came through dumping tomatoes every 100m or so. |
 |
Huge crowd. Roughly 30,000 people in one street. |
 Splat. |
Some scaredy cats are afraid of getting tomato in their hair. |
 Eeeewwwww. |
 Niiiiice. |
Wicked fun. Clint and Jarrod would do it again tomorrow, us girls are not so sure. |
These boys are in heaven. |
 |
 Seeing is believing. |
 Hola. |
Think we could look at another tomato again after this??? Was enough to put us off for life but strangely it didn't. |
Clint and his favourite soup. He designed the back of the tshirt which resembled a Campbells tomato soup can. |
The clean up begins as soon as the tourists walk back to the train. |
 Adios! |
