We spent 2 days in Berlin which was not enough time to explore a city with so much history. As it had been bombed so much during the World Wars it is the most modern city we have been to in Europe. It was also the most tormenting trip for Jas and Min (our mascots) as we left them wedged in The Wall for a photo opportunity. Read on the read more about their frantic rescue folks!
The Television Tower at Alexanderplatz..... a 5 minute walk from our hotel. 360 odd metres high.
One of the many views from the tower... the streets of Berlin. It was an incredibly clean city and the people were friendly.
A view of the hotel we stayed at, the Park Inn. A casino is on the top floor... very handy!
Jas and Min looking for The Berlin Wall.
The Television Tower at a distance.
Checkpoint Charlie was the most well-known border crossing between East and West. Alot of escape attempts from the East......
.... to the West were either successful or failed. It was opened in June 1963 and demolished in June 1990.
Part of the Berlin Wall near Checkpoint Charlie. This section of the Wall was fenced off.
Alot of the Wall is crumbling and deteriorating.
Yoohoo........
The Brandenburg Gate, the symbol of german unity was erected in 1791 as a triumphal arch.
The longest section of the Berlin Wall, 1300m long and half is covered in graffiti and half in art.
There were loads of interesting of paintings.
Jas and Min climbing the wall before we left them behind by accident!! Lucky for us, they were still there 1 hour later!
Views from the top of the Reichstag.... built in the 19th century to house the German parliament.
The dome of the Reichstag (Realm Day Dome) was amazing, with loads of mirrors and glass with a spiral walkway.
We went for a taxi ride on a 3 wheeled bicycle through the park of Berlin on the way to the shopping district.... Bliss!
An interesting water feature at the front of a huge shopping centre.
