This is my tribute to him and his talents. To Sammy: I choose not to dwell in the shadows of your death, but to live in the light that was your life. I love you.

I can't imagine as a mother and grandmother the aching pain of losing a child. This is such a wonderful thing, a great tribute to him and his passions. A wonderful thing to have and cherish. What a blessing to have. Thank you so much for shairng. Prayers with you and your family for your loss.

My Son Jimmy died 12/29/08 at the age of 41 years old. He has a beautiful wife, daughter 21 and son 13. My heart is broke - I think of him everyday and miss his eys, smile, laughter, and all his questions. How do I go on. It should have been me not my first born son who struggled at birth as a premie Helpt me God to know that Jimmy is at peace.

Dear Deborah, My sincerest condolences to you and your family. Losing a child is the hardest journey a parent will ever take. How saddened I am that you are on that journey. The words to the Indian prayer under Sam's self portrait are most beautiful. They are comforting words and I hope you don't mind if I put them in my heart and remember them always. My son, David died of a heart attack, too at age 19 in July,'07. He also played guitar, had a wonderful singing voice and drew anime figures.Hope our sons have met up in heaven.

Deb I just wanted to say that I admire you..Not only for the courage to keep going day after day after with the great loss that you went through, but the heart that you have to share him with evryone else..For us that never knew him now has a special place in our hearts for him...H e was so young but yet so grown up it sounds like..You have alot of great responses...Many people love him...I lost my father 2 years ago this coming Sunday and I thought that it was the hardest thing ever....Ok I am trying to do this with out a tear....He battled cancer for 5 years and then he fianlly got tired of fighting and went...He dies the day befroe my oldest daughters 18th birthday and then we lost our first grandchild...My oldest got pregnant and we felt in our heart is was my father coming back to us in a grandbaby and then 2 days before my daughters 19th birthday she lost it...Our hearts were in millions of pieces..Time does move on but the pain is still real and fresh everyday...But I feel that if I talk about them everyday that IT does help and the pain isn't as bad...I could never in a million years imagine that one of my children would go before me..I am so so sorry for your loss...I will pray for you and your family..

It's sad that this has to be a memorial gallery. Parents aren't suppose to have to do memorials to their children. Having said that, you've done a wonderful job sharing a little of Sam with those of us who never had an opportunity to know him.

Deborah: I wanted to write and tell you how sorry I am to hear that you lost your beloved son so suddenly. On Halloween of 1991 our daughter Joey was killed in a car accident - just 12 days after her 19th birthday. She was in NC and we were in FL - but I had talked to her on the phone the day before the accident and like your last words to your son we both said I love you. This year it will be 16 years. Paula said she could not imagine the pain of losing a child at such a young age. Well I can and my sincerest sympathy goes out to you and your family. It is something that you will NEVER "get over." You will NEVER "move on." There will NEVER be "closure." And "time will NOT heal all wounds" (just to mention a few of the stupid things people will say to you.) But you will survive - I promise - the pain will become a part of who you are. You will come out the other side a better person. But of course I'd go back to being my old self in a heartbeat - but that isn't going to happen. Be gentle with yourself - you WILL laugh again - and life WILL be good again - it just won't be the same as it was. A favorite book's title is "A Broken Heart Still Beats." And it does. Carol
