3 weeks road trip in north-west USA discovering Grand Teton NP and Yellowstone NP

Between the 24th of August and the 11th September 2019, we spent nearly 3 wonderful weeks in the north-west part of USA to discover Grand Teton NP and Yellowstone NP. It was our first trip in this part of USA, and each day was full of surprises, with countless breath-taking landscapes and wild animals encounters. Each time we travel to USA we come back with wonderful souvenirs and a furious envy to come back!

After one afternoon in Salt Lake City, we took the road to Grand Teton NP and Yellowstone NP. It was a beautiful road trip ! I drove 2.050 miles i.e. 3.700 km, on the wonderful scenic roads of Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada states. We had the pleasure to discover the following places, and walk along the following trails:

- Salt Lake City where we landed after our flight from Paris

In Grand Teton NP:

- the Jackson lake area, during our stay in Colter Bay during the first week, or from the National Elk Refuge were we stayed during the last days in Gran Teton NP
- the Snake River with various overlooks including the famous Oxbow Bend
- Leigh lake and Bearpaw lakes trails
- Jenny Lake trail and Moose Pond, where we saw our first female moose with a cub
- Two Ocean Lake trail, where we saw our 2nd female moose with a cub
- Hermitage Point trail
- Mormon Row historical site
- Taggart and Bradley lakes trails
- Gros Ventre road (view of a group of male moose) and Gros Ventre Slide Geological Aera
- Visit of old cabins used for the film ‘‘Shane’’ (en français "L'homme des vallées perdues")
- Visit of the Cunnigham Cabin historical site
- Snake river Schwabachers landing overlook
- Moose road between Mouse and Jackson city

In Yellowstone NP:

- Yellowstone Lake
- West Thumb Geyser basin
- Large groups of buffalos on the road and in the fields
- Mud Volcano and Sulfur Caldron geysers and hot springs
- the Cascade Lake trail
- Norris Geyser Basin to discover Porcelain Basin
- South rim and north rim of the Yellowstone River Canyon
- the Lamar valley (with a view of a brown bear near the raod)
- Beartooth Scenic Highway Drive and the Beartooth Plateau
- Cooke City
- Mammoth Hot Springs
- Swan lake
- Sheepeater cliff
- Artist's Paint Pot
- Boiling River, a hot water bathing place on the Yellowstone River
- the Back Basin part of Norris Geyser Basin to try to see the eruption of the biggest geyser in the world: Steamboat Geyser
- Nez Perce road
- Fountain Paint Pots
- Biscuit Basin
- Black Sand Basin
- Old Faithfull Geyser
- Midway Geyser Basin and the very well-known Grand Prismatic Spring
- Great Fountain Geyser eruption, the 3rd geyser in height in Yellowstone NP
- Firehole River Falls
- Grand Geyser eruption the 4th geyser in height in Yellowstone NP
- Upper Geyser Basin of the Old Faithfull Geyser country, with various geysers eruptions: Daisy Geyser, Riverside Geyser, Grotto Geyser, Morning Glory pool…
- Kepler cascades on the Firehole River and de Lone Star Geyser trail. (View of a grizzly crossing the road !)

On the road back to Salt Lake City:

- Bear lake
- Timber Pine trail
- Tony Grove mountain lake
- Logan city and some of it’s numerous trails : Dry Canyon trail (over Smithfield), Logan Scenic Canyon trail, and Green Canyon trail
