17-FEB-2008 Thank you, Dadi' !

Our Sun

Through my Dad's Solar Telescope

At about the "4 o'clock" position, you can see what is called
a "Solar Prominence". This particular one extends
out approximately 30,000 miles above the surface
of the Sun (to give you some perspcetive!).

Solar prominences are caused by the Sun's
changing magnetic field.

Do NOT try this without a Solar Telescope!!

My goodness, it gets even better! This is fantastic!!! Did you need to use special filters as well or just the telescope attached to the camera?

Four o'clock is when I burn the most, almost to the rich color here. A great shot and astronomy lesson.
