I'm Gonna Soak Up the Sun
My toenails are polished, my tan-in-a-bottle is applied, my suitcase is packed, and I am outta here. We're headed to Sandals Grande Antigua on the trip we booked last June. I am truly sorry for all of you guys who are stuck in the cold and the snow. I wish I could bring you all along with us.
(Oh yeah, 2 months down with PaD!)

On the Fly
Some days it is hard to get a photo. I don't have the time to think about it, or I see something when I am in the car and don't have time to stop. I drive by this field all the time and have wanted to take evening pictures, but don't ever stop. Tonight we were with friends on the way to dinner, and I wasn't driving. I wanted to stop, but it was cold and we were hungry. No way they were stopping for me. I didn't even ask. I snapped this going about 45 down the road, and it is just OK. I had to crop out a big utility pole. For what it is, I'm happy. But I'm definitely going back when the weather is nice and I have the time.

Enough is Enough
Okay, I am getting really tired of winter. I'm tired of all of my photos looking like black and white because there is no color in the landscape. I may have to start a new Why I Hate Winter gallery like Larkin's. I live on a hill, and even with 4 wheel drive it is dicey, especially going down. So at least for this morning, I'm staying home. Can't wait to sit around this firepit listening to the crickets and treefrogs, backing away from the fire because it is too warm.

Cheer Me Up
Today was one of the dreariest (is that a word?) days we have had all winter. I am by nature a happy person, but it was enough to bring anybody down. But you have to feel better when you see these bright, intricate flowers. Nothing unique about my photo, but I enjoy practicing my macro skills.

Ridin' the Rails
I am both fascinated by and scared of train tracks. I like to walk along them and see what has fallen between and beside the rails. Metal spikes, wood, coal, rocks. But I also feel that little thrill of danger--remember Dudley Do-Right trying to rescue Nell from Snidely Whiplash while she was tied to the railroad tracks?

Dedicated to God
Today, my granddaughter Eliza Jean was dedicated in church. She wore a beautiful christening gown made by her great grandmother Barbara. She was a very good girl, and didn't cry or spit up on the minister. Then she came home and took a nap while the rest of the family had a party in her honor. Good times!

Where Did the Time Go?
Today my older daughter turned 28. How did that happen? This picture was taken when she was about 5 months old, and I was about 22 (but I think I look like I am 12). I still feel about 32 years old in my mind, but my body says otherwise. So much has happened since then, most of it good. My girls have grown up into wonderful young women who are good wives and mothers, and best of all, my friends. I couldn't ask for anything more.
Happy Birthday, Sarah!

Nightstand
These are the essentials by my bedside. A book, my glasses (without them I am so blind I have to feel around just to find them), and my little cat box.

Be My Guide
I found this medallion when I was going through my grandmother's jewelry a couple of years ago. I googled St. Christopher's Inn and it is a mission somewhere in New York. I have no idea how she got this, since she lived in West Virginia and didn't ever travel to New York. Probably donated some money or something. Anyway, I love its retro look; the other side has a picture of St. Christopher and says Be My Guide. I travel to Nicaragua a couple of times a year, and I like to wear this while I am gone. It reminds me that I am being watched over and prayed for.

Vroom!
Okay, the answer is--one hand on the wheel, camera steadied on the steering wheel with the other hand.

Piggy Hat
Clearly, Eliza is not amused that Mommy put this hat on her today. But she looks so cute in it, and it may be the last time she gets to wear it, because she is just growing too fast!

False Spring Part 2
Spring is here! Or so the people at Wal-Mart would have you believe. These Gerbera daisies are really cheerful, but snow is predicted tonight. So I'm not getting my hopes up too soon.

The Battle
I was doing really well with my exercise program, working out about 5 times a week, till last Sunday. Then I got sick with a bad head cold. I didn't do a thing all week. Thank goodness the scale didn't go up, but it ain't going down either. So tomorrow, it's back to the gym.

Love Endures
This weekend we spent time with two of my best friends. They are both women who have recently gone through a divorce after 30 years of marriage. It is so strange to think of them without their partners, but I know this is unfortunately common these days. They didn't even know each other until today, but their stories are similar. They are both doing well, but I know it has been hard for them. My husband and I have also been married for 30 years, and I can't imagine being without him. I don't know if I could put myself out there and start all over. My friends are strong women and I commend them for what they have done.
I thank God that for me and my hubby, love endures.

Day Is Done
The sunset was really pretty tonight, with lots of contrails from jets streaking across the sky. Which reminded me of a TV show I saw recently which proposed that the military is using some new type of fuel that makes contrails visible longer. I'm not much into conspiracy theory. I think it has to do with the temperature, winds, etc. Anyway, it makes for some beautiful skies.

Yes, of course, roses on Valentine's Day.

Tire Tracks
The UPS guy was the first to use our driveway today and leave his mark. I've been home most of the last 2 days nursing a cold. Good timing, since our streets have pretty icy and treacherous.

Overwhelmed
I'm taking a six week class in Photoshop CS3 and there is just so much to learn. I think if I bought the program, I would probably overprocess the pictures till they were screwed up beyond repair, so I am still deciding whether to purchase it or just stick with something a little less intense. It's fun, though to see what it will do.

Just a Dusting
Tonight, while my husband was out at a Bible study, it started to snow. It wasn't much, only about half an inch. But, according to him, it was slicker than snot. Everyone I know who was out said the roads were terrible. The interstate (I-64) is closed in both directions. It's crazy what such a small amount of snow can do. I'm staying home for awhile, thank you very much!

Hold Outs
This one tree along my driveway holds its leaves all winter long. On a gusty day like today, they flutter in the wind like flags.

Important Primaries
Forget the presidential election. These primary colored bowling pins represent the best $10.88 I have spent in a long time. My grandsons love to "knocka down pins" and will spend hours playing, as long as someone (guess who?) resets them, over, and over, and over, and over . . . .!

Silly Nana!
This is the look you get from a 5 month old when you are trying to do a self portrait using the mirror in her Jumparoo. Sorry for the blurriness, but she wouldn't sit still!!

For Your Eyes Only
I don't know why, but when I put in a new pair of contacts, I like to see how dry and brittle the old pair gets when left on the counter. It's hard to believe that I ever put them in my eyes, and that if I put them in saline solution, they would become soft enough to wear again.

Super Smirnoff
Here are the results of our vodka infusion experiment, exhibited at the Super Bowl party. We had entries ranging from hot pepper vodka to cinammon Red Hots candy vodka. Lots of fun, even though our team lost.
