Shortly after moving to Creston in 1941, Gilbert made the decision to keep a dairy herd. The close proximity to town provided a ready market for the milk. This proved to be an exceptionally wise move as it provided a steady weekly income for family needs, not subject to the ups and downs of other farm income.
