3/9/05 - Hey, Page Turner

Bethesda, MD

I gave platelets today. Unfortunately, the procedure usually requires a needle in each arm - whole blood out one, blood minus platelets (looks like cherry cool-aide) in the other. In other words, you can't do a crossword puzzle. So, I read a book -- a nurse propped up the book and turned pages when I grunted. Finished the book. (Kite Runner)

Actually, I took this right after the pulled the needles while I was still on the rack. I give this at NIH, where I guess they're used for research. Don't know what that means. You used to be able to walk or drive freely onto the campus, but since 9/11, they've built a big fence around the entire campus, and they search every visitor vehicle. Life's getting too tedious and nasty.

So, how did you take this shot? Good for you, giving platelets to someone who needs them.
