This is a strange shot. It's taken from the east side of the new WWII Memorial looking west to the Lincoln Memorial. I was fascinated by the silhouettes of the people in the foreground (WWII Memorial) in that they look quite artificial and posed. I also adjusted the levels to give this a bluer tint than the peach-colored tint of most of the monuments at night -- not sure why, but it gave an effect that appealed to me at the time.
Probably more significant -- to me, anyway -- is the fact that shortly after I took this shot, a police (or Secret Service) officer came up to me and told me I couldn't take photos with a tripod. I was more than a little annoyed, and the more I think about it, the more angry I get. It seems to me that the paranoid mindset that increasingly affects our daily lives it just too damn dear a a price for the (falsly) perceived security it's supposed to provide. [soapbox mode off]
