7/29/04 - Basking Beauty

Brookside Gardens, Wheaton, MD

Of all the shots I took at Brookside Gardens today, I think this is my favorite. Not sure what it is (OK, I know it's not a spider, cockroach, or mosquito!), but I'm partial to the pale yellow on the lilac. See http://www.pbase.com/image/31957774 for another.

Not sure on distance, but probably about a half meter -- I can't get too close with the lens, even on macro. Thanks for identifying it for me.

I have that Sigma lens for Canon; it's really sharp! How far away were you from the swallowtail??
