7/10/04 - Rendezvous...

Given Jeanne's PAD for today http://www.pbase.com/image/31181270), it was ironic (?) that the poem of the day in my little volume of reflection is this piece. I'm really not satisfied with the shot itself. I've got a lot to learn about making these kinds of shots. Alas, I am but a guy; what can you expect? :) My alternate candidate for today is http://www.pbase.com/image/31199472. Not sure which I'll keep.

PS - Cropping, level and hue/saturation adjustment, no USM (couldn't avoid halos), framing.

I'd like to think that I don't dwell on death and such all that much. The poem just came up in the book for that date; I'd didn't go searching it out. Its being there, however, made me think of what we have done -- to our kids over there, to their loved ones back home, to the people of Iraq, to the respect and support we once had from the rest of the world, to the trust that most Americans have had in their leaders, and to the belief that many of us cling to -- that we can be proud of what our nation, our form of government, and our people stand for. (Sorry - again - for the soapbox.)

The poem gave me chills. We can't run from it, need we run to it? Funny, I'm listening to Brahms' German Requiem now, "Herr, lehre doch mich, das es ein Ende mit mir haben mus." But we're on the eary beginning of the 6th movement now...

Wow, that's a pretty heavy poem. I like that you did this one. Although I try to live life in the happiest way I know how, sometimes it is good to reflect on death? It's waiting there for all of us, how we approach it is what makes the difference!
