Guess what I found on a wooden rail near my house today?
At least it's better than having your name carved on a bathroom wall.

PS Work...
Emboss portrait image (with extra depth and correct light angle);
Free Transform (Enlarge & rotate), convert to monochrome.
Add as layer to wooden rail image, color dodge layer blending, reduce opacity.
Add mat and frame.

Actually, the PS work wasn't that big a deal -- I probably just made it sound like it. I had the head shot already. It was taken some time ago with my Oly 2020Z, so the resolution was marginal. So I just used the free transform to stretch and rotate it to fit the wood rail image. The carved look just took an emboss with the light direction adjusted and a slight increase in the depth. Then I fiddled with the channel mixer to eliminate most of the color - probably could have just desaturated it. Then the key thing was to change the blending mode (I used color burn, I think, but others probably would have worked equally well) and opacity of the face image so it allowed the wood texture to show through and thus the whole thing to looked carved in. Hmmm... Now I've made it look tough again. Really, it probably didn't take as long to do as it's taken to explain it.
