I think this woman could have been the model for one of the posters used by the British early in the war to recruit women into the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS), the army's branch for women. The navy and air force had similar services. The women certainly had the less glamorous jobs (read crummy), but they were no less important than the men to the war effort. Gen. Eisenhower's personal driver was an ATS lieutenant, Kay Sommersby.
