Virgo Cluster

Sedro-Woolley, Wa.

Field of view is about 1 1/2 by 2 1/4 degrees centered at about RA: 12h29m DE:+13°08' in the constillation Virgo.
By clicking on the origional size you can see upwards of twenty of the galaxys in this field of view.
It appears that most of them are eliptical galaxys (look like fuzz balls) and some look like they are spiral galaxys.
All told there are 1 to 2 thousand galaxys in the Virge cluster. It is reported that our own local group of galaxies is part of the overall Virgo cluster.
Quite a few of the galaxys in this picture were cataloged as nebulas in the 1700s as the concepet of galaxys wasn't introduced till the 1920's
The center of the Virgo galaxy cluster is said to be about 54 million light years distant.
