Miss Deacon's house aflame - she was down at the river and by serendipitous chance had taken her mother's bible with her - just about the only belonging that survived the fire.

I remember hearing about this, it happened after I left.
It was a great shame and I rememebr the house fondly (like most of my sakeji memories)
