Wow! It really does bring back memories to see these old photos. I found myself in a few from the 1950s. The dorm hallway looks so narrow and I thought it was so wide back then. The mud pool, the bent trees, the school buildings, the teachers, oh, so long ago now.

I still have Sakeji video in a drawer. Maybe I should put some clips on youtube. This site doesn't support video.

Dear Mr. Brubacher,
My name is Iva Pesa and I am a historian doing research on the social history of Mwinilunga District in the 20th century.
I was delighted to find your pictures on the internet, and would love to use some of these for my own work, with your permission of course.
I would not so much be interested in the pictures with the missionary children, as in the pictures of everyday life of the local population (the pictures on village crafts and cassava pounding for instance).
Feel free to contact me any time!
Mr. Kaye, if you do pursue the history writing on Sakeji I would also be very much interested to contact you.
Kind regards,
Iva Pesa

What a wonerful find. I'm in the middle of writing abaout my Sakeji experiences between 1944 and 1952 and would like to use some of these photos if that is allowed. So many familiar faces but so few names!

It was amazing to discover these photos. I was in Sakeji, with my 2 sisters, Gail & Kirsty around 76-78. Amazingly happy memories. I often wondered what happened to all the kids we were at Sakeji with. I tried to track down Elizabeth Combrink a few years ago, but hit a bit of a dead end. If anyone knows where she now is, I would be delighted to hear from her. My email address is elisecotter@hotmail.com.
With Love and thanks xx

Hi
I fleetingly remember you when you first came to Sakeji for a year in 1978 or so.I remember your red setter dog a lot better!
I am trying to contact Kabinda Bulawayo to find out about her brother Ndabe.
She has posted a message and hope you can help.

Dear Mr Brubacher
It was a very pleasant surprise to come across these pictures. Thinking back, I remember that you would bring out the camera every once in a while. So I was happy to find som shots of me and my classmates. I am grateful that you took the time and effort to make the photos available online.
Kind regards. Hans Aarhus (86-87)

Dear Kabinda
You were one of my best mates when I started at Sakeji - wasn't your dad a MP in Lusaka? My dad is a doctor. It would be lovely to hear from you - my email roshie.watkins@virgin.net

Dear Mr Bru,
Thank you so much for giving us the gift of revisiting our childhood. We lost all our Sakeji pictures so it was all becoming a distant memory...aging sucks :-). I live in Dallas Texas now, and it's been almost impossible to describe my early childhood to my nieces and nephews, but now finally I'm able to share a part of my past with them. (They've been sitting here pretty awestruck and my mother's on the verge of tears)
Is it possible to purchase some of the prints?
Thanks once again and blessings!!

Dear Mr Bru
This was a great trip down memory lane and since it was at Sakeji that I met Jesus and was saved It has been great to see the place I treasure and all my old friends and remember how Good God was to me there.
All the best

Had no idea these were here. Sadly for me they are almost all either after my time or before it! You only visited Sakeji when I was there, before going 'home' to get set to come and work at Sakeji. As Eddie Rowlands had commented I recognise Paul, his son and a dear friend of mine, with his monkey which must have been taken c.1975. I will publicise them amongst those I know.

Dear Mr Bru

What a fantastic selection of very very fond memories. I was suprised to see so many of me being the eldest of four! I always remember Mrs Bru's gorgeous ice cream - nothing has equalled it yet! And we all still laugh at the soggy rice cakes and marmite. Thank you so much for taking such alot of time and effort to share snapshots of our happy times there. I have two children of my own and will hopefully in the next 3 years make a trip over to Zambia from the UK to revisit all those very special places. Thanks again
Roshie ( nee Ahsan 1976 - 1983)

Dear Mr Brubacher, great photos ! We were really surprised to find ourselves in them. They brought back so many fond memories of Sakeji. I still remember when you first came, you had that big white american jeep and as a treat for us seniors you hid bottles of cold drink in the stream and Mrs Bru's welcome change to the dinner menu. Thanks for everything at Sakeji! Noor,(1976-1984) Roshan, Parvez and Samir Ahsan, Doctor and Mrs Ahsan (Provincial Medical Officer at that Time)

Dear Mr. Brubacher,
Such a fantastic collection of Sakeji photos, I am impressed with your care and dedication to make something like this possible. This brings back a lot of memories, most of which were just captured in my head... so nice to see the old Sakeji and many people I still do remember.
Love,
Mina (Ristic) Laban (1981-82)

Mr Brubacher,

Thanks so much for the time and effort you have taken to load these pictures; I wish I could convey the thankfulness I feel for the time I spent at Sakeji. Very few pictures exist of our time there so it was with surprise and delight that I found several of my family. I know that Jenny and Andrew were also thrilled to see us in your 'time capsule'. God bless you and your family over and over again for the awesome effort you and your wife put into Sakeji years.

Cheers
from Robyn Clark ( Robyn Herschell 1977-1981)
