Sand-flipping Behavior

Elephant seals are often seen engaging in sand-flipping behavior.
The enormous amount of blubber on their bodies is to keep them
warm in the cold northern waters of the Pacific. While laying on
the beach in the summer, from April to August, heat from the sun
can build up causing potential problems.
