This home is located in the Store Patch of Lost Creek. The family started repairs and then divorced. The reason these properties sit like this is because they are located on Coal Company land now controlled and leased by Girard Estates in Philadelphia. Most were built by coal companies in the late 1800's during the coal boom in NEPA. The occupants either died or moved away and the houses left behind. Many of these homes do no even have deeds, just a bill of sale or nothing. So the tax roles show only the entire plot of land and not all of the individual buildings. YES some people still live here, including me. The photos are shocking, but many of the homes in this area are in excellent condition. Many of these images are of buildings that have been torn down. Girard Estates has funded a project to remove 5 or 6 homes per year, starting in 2012. Within 4 years there will be none of these buildings left.

Why were these homes allowed to fall apart and be abandoned? Where are the owners ? why are some people still living in this mess ? There must be some history of this area. I was there today and truly interested.
