Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh, India: April 2005

Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh, India is a world-class park for photographing tigers. The best way to travel to Bandhavgarh is by train from Delhi, which takes about 18 hours. While this may sound long, the daily sightings of tigers more than justified the long train ride. This was a jeep safari so I shot all but one of the tigers from a “Gypsy” jeep – the one exception was from the back of an elephant. All the tiger pictures were shot with the Canon EOS 20D and the 100-400 IS lens - handheld. For shooting tigers I recommend a light telephoto lens in the 300-400mm range that can be handheld - preferably with Image Stabilization.

Mr David, Your photos are very natural. the colours of the habitat are as per conditions there. I have been to Bandhavgarh in oct '05. I was very lucky to see 11 tigers including B2. I have shot all slides on my old nikonf601 and nikonf90x and sigma lenses. I go to Bandhavgarh again this April armed with D70s nikon and 80-200 f2.8, 300 f4 and 1.4 tc if reqd. Hi David, congratulations on your pics. I was very impressed that they were nearly all shot from a jeep and not from an elephant. Is the Canon EOS20D digital? How was Bandhavgargh in April - were there lots of people. I am planning on going this April. I went last year end-May and hope that there will be fewer people in April. I love your wild dogs also - good shot. Lucky you.

First of all I would like to say, you are very lucky that you managed to go to Bandhavgarh tiger reserve. I am from India, but till now I have not been able to go there. Your all images are superb. Your images displays some great lighting and sharpness. I liked them all.
