Today(1/22/2011) work begins on the new Northern Arizona shooting range. First order of business is to remove all of the barbed wire fencing of which there is approx. four miles. As volunteers showed up they were issued wire cutters, bolt cutters and a pole pop out tool. In addition to being a volunteer effort by all interested, this was also a Boy Scout project and they did a great job. I worked with a couple of Explorer Scouts. The range is being built by the Arizona Game and Fish Commission and is located on 160 acres of what was once Foster Ranch. It is located approximately 15 miles east of Flagstaff and a few miles south of Interstate 40. When complete it will provide ranges for rifle, pistol, shotgun and will also include an archery range. Completion date is scheduled for the summer of 2013 but some are saying that it could be finished by 2012. I don't have the specifics as to how many positions will be available for the various ranges nor the distances. My goal is to take pictures as construction progresses so come back and take a look every so often.
