The Book "The World's Rarest Birds" compiled by authors Hirschfeld, Swash and Still published in 2013 has a list of all the species listed by BirdLife International as Endangered or Critically Endangered or Extinct in Wild but still alive in captive breeding programs.

It is a beautifully illustrated book with brief descriptions of the species and the estimated populations in the wild.

In addition, they have a list of all the extinct species (130) since 1500.

And another 60 species where there is not enough data to assign to a category. They call these Data Deficient.
