One of the first and foremost of the great English landscape gardens. Stowe is a National Trust property. See http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-vh/w-visits/w-findaplace/w-stowegardens/ for more information. This is an amazing collection of "monuments, temples and secret corners". You really have to witness the layout to appreciate the skill of the landscape designers: Charles Bridgeman (garden designer), John Vanburgh (architect), William Kent and James Gibbs. The follies are so carefully positioned that you encounter them as if by magic as you walk through the grounds, and they are so carefully interconnected. Highly recommended, if you are in the area (country). Take a picnic and plan to spend a few hours...
