_IGP0002.JPG

This image is an in-camera JPEG taken using manual exposure on the Pentax K10D. It is not rotated, as this causes loss of sharpness in pBase. It is in AdobeRGB colour space and this has not been altered. The exposure is 1/250 at f10 with the 28-75mm Tamron f2.8 XR Di II lens set to 75mm. Settings are: Saturation normal, Sharpness normal, Contrast minimum, ISO 100.

See the next image for a direct comparison with the Sony Alpha 100.

Note that despite the 'identical' construction of the Tamron and the Konica Minolta variants of this lens, the Tamron appears to have produce a larger image scale. This may be due a slight change in position when lifting one camera to the eye; both were on neckstraps.

Subsequent processing of the raw files, and many field tests, showed that the Pentax effective ISO at this speed is about 1/3rd to 1/2rd a stop slower than the Sony A100. This is generally reflected in the exposure given to scenes; the Pentax may give up to a stop more exposure in normal daylight, and in dark tungsten light situations with ISO 1600, gives up to two stops more exposure.
