This graph shows the tonal response on an sRGB Natural JPEG at normal contrast, of the Dynax 5D (magenta) and the Alpha 100 (blue). The A100 has significantly darker midtones and light midtones as well as highlights, and a flatter central section to the curve, but has more in reserve at the highlight end. It appears to offer 1/2 a stop more dynamic range than the Dynax 5D, but more brightening may be needed for midtones - or more exposure overall to get the same result.
