For this comparison, the Sony Alpha 900 with 1986 Minolta AF macro was set up using an aperture of f11. It was found that one stop more than the metered exposure was needed for correct density at ISO 100 - an exposure of 2 seconds. This was made on a heavy duty Slik professional tripod, using 2 second mirror-up release. A range of other exposure and aperture tests was made; f8 though less compromised by possible diffraction losses lacked enough depth of field, apertures smaller than f11 were progressively less sharp due to diffraction loss. The Alpha 900 set an incorrect WB, for daylight, when the main light on the cactus was tungsten. The background was daylight and clearly influenced this. For raw conversion purposes, this image was set to the same 3850K value identified by the Canon 5D MkII (next image); in ACR 5.2, it is interesting that this made the pictures a very close match.
