Dining table and decorative lamps

The dining room table was made 40 cm shorter and given a new veneer surface. Masako used an old futon cover she found after Izumiko passed away to make new lamp covers for the big square decorative lamps on the wall, since Masako really liked the pattern. (The futon cover was sewed together by hand, in a pattern almost quilt like.)

It turns out that a half century or so ago, Masako's mother had found some old kimonos (probably her mother's) with a pattern she really liked. But she had no use for them as kimonos, so, since she liked the pattern, she turned them into a futon cover and gave it to Izumiko. After making the lamp covers, Masako found a letter from her mother to Izumiko saying that she really liked the pattern on these old kimono. Masako was quite surprised to find that her mother had the same aesthetic about this fabric pattern 50 years earlier.
