We enter the so named "High Street" and head east. This road was once the original "Great Western
Highway" - and still is (officially) although by-pass roads were created to go around the old CBD precinct
in the 1960s, leaving this two lane restricted speed access road for the actual shoppers. To be fair
most of the retail businesses are yet to open for the day but we readily encounter boarded up premises
with graffitied, no longer hopeful "for lease" signs. The main newsagency (once owned by Norma's
cousin) has long gone out of business.
