Well This is where we left off. The basic route will be the same but a slight change in plan is
afoot. Instead of following the Great Western Highway along the footpath below, Juanita and I have
decided to return to the road on the other side of the railway line. The destination will be the
same, the key landmarks will remain unaltered but the way should prove slightly shorter and quicker.
We have a fair way to go.

And so we leave the Great Western Highway for the present, anyway. From here the main road will
descend further to Glenbrook which, at 163 metres in altitude) is the last and lowest official
Blue Mountains settlement. The highway will then abruptly end by morphing into the six lane M4
motorway for the fast dash into inner Sydney. There'll be long boring straight stretches, exits,
entrances and complex cloverleaf interchanges, 110 kph speed limits ... and almost NO provision
for pedestrians. We won't be walking THAT way. We'll be taking the "short cut" out of the mountains.
