Ferguson Ave, leading into Springwood passes a low profile business precinct repleat with lawyers,
printers, graphic artists, doctors, meditation centres acupuncturists and singing teachers. Already,
Springwood reveals itself to be the "get-it-done", "go-ahead" community that it is. For a long
time the town played second fiddle to Katoomba and its tourism industry but these days things have
changed. Improvements to the mountain roads and modern cars have meant that the Blue Mountains are
no longer a "stay overnight cum stay for a week" holiday destination. Sydney to Katoomba is an
inconsequential day trip now and so Katoomba's natural income has taken a big hit.
Springwood, on the other hand, benefits from the growth and employment opportunities of western
Sydney satellite industy which is now only a short commute away. At the 2006 national census, Springwood
overtook Katoomba as the mountains' largest town and by the 2010 census had pulled further away.
