For many years (up until about 1960 something) the two lane highway through the mountains used to
cross the railway line in places. Cars would take ninety degree bends to negotiate pint sized bridges
like this one. They have all been torn down or bypassed now. As late as last year the main rail
line used to pass in a cutting under this structure. Of course the rail line has been moved to
allow the road engineering. The old cutting has simply been filled in.
