Carrabella St joins Kirribilli Avenue and we come across the entrance to Admiralty House.
Originally built as a private residence in 1842, this dwelling became the residence for the British
Admiral of the Royal Navy's Australia Squadron in 1885. It was at this time that the house was
extensively rebuilt and enlarged. The Australia Squadron became the Royal Australian Navy in 1913
and the last British Admiral left for home. After many years of near neglect, the dwelling was restored
in 1936 and became the official Sydney residence for both the Governor General and visiting members
of the Royal family.
