This is a picture I took in about 1992 of Freedom Bridge ( pronounced ja-yoo da-ri 자유의 다리 ) near the demilitarized zone (DMZ) between South Korea (ROK) and North Korea (DPRK) where the prisoners-of-war (POWs) were repatriated after the end of the Korean War (1950-53). Even though President Kim, Dae-Jung (1997-02) built a modern expressway next to it in hopes of a peaceful unification, Freedom Bridge still looks the same today. It is a 1-lane bridge so every 15 minutes it alternates which direction of travel it is open for.
