While conducting liaison in Korea a ROK Army officer whose was a proud graduate of Korea Military Academy gave me this keychain. I love the motto 내 생명 조국을 위하여 which translates as "My life for the Fatherland".
I happened to take this picture on March 1st, which is a famous date in Korean history. On March 1st, 1919 a female college student named 류관순 (Yoo, Kwan-Soon) led a large rebellion protesting the Japanese Occupation of Korea. Her efforts are remembered to this day; most notably the highest award that can be bestowed to a military service member is called the 삼일상 or 3.1 Award which is regarded as highly as the Congressional Medal of Honor to the US military.
