I travelled to Azerbaijan (capital: Baku) from 3-12 May 2015, together with 3 British birders. The main aim of this trip was to explore the Caucasus Mountains in search of several bird species with a distribution range in the WP mainly restricted to the Caucasus area (both Lesser & Greater Caucasus), as well as to photograph eastern (Asian) forms of some species with a widespread distribution in the WP. Our journey included several days spent in north-east Azerbaijan exploring the Greater Caucasus around Laza and Xinaliq (Mt Gizilgaya). We then moved from northern to south-east Azerbaijan to explore the Talish Mountains (Lesser Caucasus) in the Lerik District. During the north to south transfer, we also visited en route a few important bird areas along the Caspian Sea including Shirvan NP, Gobustan NP and the Masali area. This gallery has 104 images depicting 30 bird species. |
