Early snaps from the D200. Excuse the boring subjects, they are for sharpness and colour testing.

Most processed from Nikon Capture 4, then to Photoshop CS2, then to sRGB JPEG. Some have curves adjusted, so don't presume this is "straight from the camera".

Phuang3 - Upsampling is valid - because that is what has to happen when you print the D70 shot as large as the D200. That is why I included both comparisons. Lou - It is funny you should reach the opposite conclusion as me. The D70 is clearly outresolved by the D200. Did you look athttp://www.pbase.com/davexl/image/54561900/original ? But from my POV I am realy looking at how the D200 gives me 90% of the D2x image quality for third the price. It really is the best bang for buck for a pro camera. And as you said, worth it alone for the bigger screen, viewfinder, speed etc.

Maybe you shouldn't upsample the D70 and compare with D200. Upsmapling screws things up. D200 has a stronger analog low-pass filter. It's not as sharp as D70 but reduced the moire effectively while D70 may suffer from some situations.

One will certainly buy a D200 for the much better performance this body offers in comfort and speed, but for sure not to get a 600$ better picture. Your test shows clearly that the D70 is far from being overtaken by a D200 in picture quality. A good and concluent test which confirms that a 25% smaller pixel and 4 millions more will not make the world turn upside down :-)

Some undane subjects (but not all!), but beautiful shots. I got my D200 just before Christmas and LOVE it!
