April 17, 2005 - Black Gold

California pumps a lot of oil - only Texas, Alaska and Lousiana produce more. This well is located near the town of Taft, in Kern County, which produces 10% of the petroleum production in the United States. It is, therefore, not surprsing that this rainbow, which I photographed in early April, ends in an oil field.

I remember the first time I seen the big hammer when I came to America. I was so amazed by it, because I only seen it on TV with the series " Dallas" Great shot.

Very interesting photograph. There is a lot to see here. You enjoy the "oil patch". Thanks for the narrative. I've spent some time flying rough necks and others around oil fields and rigs.
