This was the only bear I saw during my visit to Yosemite. Black bears (there are no grizzly bears in Yosemite or California) are essentially harmless. I prepared to move a little closer, but the bear (it was just off the road and not far from Bridalveil Fall, and seemed to be licking ants off a fallen tree trunk), ran off when a noisy human approached too quickly.
