Each year the Pony Express Reride follows the original Pony Express route between Sacramento, CA, and St. Joseph, MO, reversing direction in alternate years. The ride involves about 500 riders, which allows participation among people all along the route. A mochila containing mail is transferred between horses at every change of riders as it is moved across the west toward its final destination.
2010 marks the 150th anniversary of the Pony Express and special events are planned all along the route. For more information, see http://www.xphomestation.com.
These photos show two changes of riders along the route between Woodfords, CA, and Genoa, NV. The first rider shown is our friend Mike on his horse Billy Bob. The last few photos show a couple riding tandem into Genoa to a cheering crowd of spectators.
