This oak carving, titled The Death of the Virgin (The Dormition), was created by the workshop of Tilman Heysacker in Germany during the late 15th century.
The high-relief sculpture depicts the apostles gathered around the deathbed of Mary, a scene known in Christian tradition as the "falling asleep" or Dormition.
