Unexpected Visitors

While searching for Bald Eagles to photograph on the Grand River near the small village of Glen Morris, Ontario (between Kitchener and Brantford) I was surprised by the arrival of a small herd of whitetail does on the opposite bank. They were grazing by the river's edge and I could see, or at least, sense, the presence of a large buck lurking just out of sight in the heavy underbrush. It wasn't long before the shutter of my camera gave me away and as suddenly as they appeared, they were gone.

All my shots were with my Canon 40D and 100-400mm telephoto set to Aperture Priority at f8.0, using an ISO of 800 to maintain a high shutter speed. It was a sunny day but with a lot of deep shadows due to the forest environment.
