Wildlife in Snyder Flats

Snyder Flats is the site of an old stone quarry located on the banks of the Grand River near Kitchener, Ontario -- about an hour's drive SW of Toronto along the 401 highway. There are a number of small ponds which play host to all kinds of small fauna. I was excited to discover an active ospreys' nest perched on a hydro pole. Arriving very early one summer morning I was able to get close enough undetected to watch the mother and father make repeated fishing forays from the nest and return to feed at least one youngster within. The ospreys fish further along the Grand River so I will have to stake myself along the banks to hopefully catch the action on camera!
