Bluebell Railway Workers

This gallery is not really about the trains, it is a "ROGUES GALLERY" of my own photos dedicated to the hard-working people who serve the Bluebell Railway so well. I hope to add more faces in future, so next time you see someone pointing a lens at you, don't forget to smile 'cos it may be me.

I enjoyed a fabulous weeks firing and driving course on the Bluebell railway in 1979. We were in the very capable hands of Jack Brophy, and Ian Wright. I have treasured memories of this week, and staying in a railway coach, with meals provided by Mrs Brothy. We were rostered on H class 263, and 1618, and had a great time. We were interviewed by the BBC on the footplate of 1618, which was broadcasted on the radio 4 programme. I have been living and working overseas but looked up your web site on returning to find some old names and faces still keeping those wheels turning. I now live in Herefordshire and will travel down to the railway in 2013 after 35 years away and catch up on events and people. cannot wait!! Every success and congratulations to you all. Hi I was just browsing through, a top site, and informative all the way. Born in Four Elms in 1939, i was a user of the local railway for many years. I now live in Germany, and have the luck to live near the Selfkant Bahn, a narrow gauge railway, running steam and diesel trains throughout the year, of course with the Christmas Specials for the kids of all ages from 6 months to ad ultimatum. Wishing you all every success, now and for the future. John Cole

Hello! Like Alan Woodard, I was also in the loco dept during the early 70`s, being known as sweep! Great days. Nice to see some old faces still active on the line, still recognisable after so many years!!!! My very first 3rd man trip was with Dave Wescott, autumn 1971 on P class 27. Not so much variety in motive power in those days: 2xP, the E4 and the Dukedog. After emigrating to Denmark in 1982 have over the years lost all contact. You have a good website that refreshes the memories and it is good to see that the line goes from strength to strength. Best wishes , Alan Evans.

Hi there. I used to be in the loco dept back in the early 1970,s known as sooty. I see some of my old friends are still there, i.e Roy miles, Chalky white, Steve squires.ect plus others who,s names I,m now struggleing to remember. Theres a few of us that still keep in contact, such as Fred emery, tony dwight and up untill he past away Gerry butler ( long boat ). They where without doubt some of the best days of my life, and if any member there has any photos from those long gone days of all the gang, I,d love to see a past members section on your web site. The bluebell web that you have here, is without doubt the best preserved railway site on the web, so informative. I wish you all the best. Kindest regards. Alan woodard.
