Steppe Buzzard (Buteo b. vulpinus)

If anyone asked me 19 years ago after my first visit to Israel to list in order birds that I was most impressed with Buteo buteo would have been a fair way down the list. Not this time. Maybe I took more in with less ticks to get (40+ in 1993, 7 this time) or maybe as a photographer you do watch more intently and take more in? Either way these guys are impressive. We saw 100s and 100s of them pouring overhead all day every day making the gigantuan effort that is trans-continental migration. Particulary in the Moon Mountains of Eilat where you get real close and see the effort expended on their behalf to make the journey - awe inspiring. I take my hat off to this bird and all others who continue this amazing feat. Salute.
