FOUR PELEG BALLARDS OF DUTCHESS, PUTNAM, AND DELAWARE COUNTIES
Genealogists have successfully identified four distinct men named Peleg Ballard who resided across Dutchess, Putnam, and Delaware counties in New York. These individuals belonged to a highly interconnected family line with New England roots that included Mayflower passengers .
Peleg Ballard Sr. (1728–about 1760)Born in Plainfield, Connecticut, he settled in Dutchess County, New York around 1740. He and his wife, Mary (Tracy) Ballard, appeared frequently on the Southern Precinct tax lists during the 1750s. Peleg died in Dutchess County prior to 1790.
Peleg Ballard Jr. (1755–about 1836)Son of Peleg Sr., he relocated further west into the wilderness of Delaware County in 1794. After clearing a 90-acre farm in the Batavia Kill area (now Vega), he lived to the age of 80. His descendants continued to farm this property for multiple generations .
Peleg Ballard (about 1760–before 1820)Son of Tracy Ballard, this Peleg spent his life primarily in the Dutchess and Putnam county areas (present-day Frederick/Carmel). He worked as a farmer and served his local community in various official capacities, including overseer of highways and fence viewer.
Peleg Ballard (1755–1818)A contemporary of his relatives, he was born in New York and married Charity Blauvelt. He lived in the region during the 1790 census before eventually migrating west to Wayne, Steuben County, New York, where he passed away .To confirm how these ancestors tie into your specific family tree, do you know which of these four lines you descend from? I can help by: Reviewing census records or historical tax lists for these locations Tracing the specific Mayflower lineages tied to this family Outlining the migration paths they took from Connecticut to New York
