ROBERSON, Samuel T.
A young attorney of El Reno who has been in successful practire for the past seven years, Samuel T. Roberson has established himself securely in the estimation of the people of Canadian County, where his influence counts as that of a progressive leader. He possesses youth, ambition and energy, together with a broad sense of responsibility of the individual to the community, and has a large career of usefulness before him. Mr. Roberson is now serving as county attorney of Canadian County. Samuel Tulloss Roberson was born November 12, 1877 in Bledsoe County, Tennessee, son of James and Penelope P. (Spears) Roberson. He comes of a well known family of Tennessee, and both his parents were natives of that state. When he was sixteen years of ago the family located at Jasper, in Marion County, Tennessee, and that is still the home of his father and mother. His father has for many years been a lawyer.
Samuel T. Roberson attended the People's College and in 1899 was graduated from the Pryor Institute of Tennessee. Then followed a number of years of self suporting industry and the study of law as opportunity offered. After teaching school one year in Tennessse he came to Oklahoma in 1901, and his home has been in El Reno practically ever since that time. For three years he was a teacher in Canadian County, and did several other kinds of work while pursuing his law studies. Mr. Roberson was admitted to the Oklahoma bar in 1908, and has since had his law offices in El Reno, where for a time he was associated with his older brother, James N. Roberson. Mr. Roberson served during a part of 1909 and all of 1910 as deputy county attorney, and in 1912 was elected to the office of county attorney, and secured an endorsement of his work in that office by re-election in 1914. He is a democrat in polities, and is affiliated with the Knights of Pythias and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. His church home is the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. SWAFFORD, Isaac N.
Farmer; born Melvine, (Bledsoe Co) Tenn., April 23, 1872; son of Thomas and Virginia (Taylor) Swafford; father farmer; married Rachael M. Vaughn Dec. 17, 1902; became self-supporting at age of 15; then engaged in the merchandise business in early life; was Circuit Court Clerk for six years; Justice of the Peace four years; is present postmaster at Pikeville, having held this position for past nine years; has served as Chairman of the Republican County Executive Committee for six years, never having lost a campaign that he managed personally; member of M.E. church. SWAFFORD, Jesse Brown
Lawyer; born Bledsoe Co., Tenn., July 6, 1866; Scotch-Irish-Dutch descent; son of Samuel and Eliza (Roberson) Swafford; educated People's College, Pikeville, Tenn.; graduated in law from Cumberland University, Lebanon, June, 1888; married Hannah Darwin Dec. 18, 1895; member Dayton Lodge I.O.O.F.; is Past Grand of the same; member Dayton Lodge F. & A.M.; is Worshipful Master of the same and is a member of Chapter No. 121 R.A.M. (Master of 3rd V.); member Harriman Council No. 87 R. & S.M.; Democrat; represented the 9th Senatorial District in Upper House Tenn. Leg. 1901, the only office he ever sought before the public; began teaching in public schools of Bledsoe when 18 years of age, and by this means, obtained funds to defray expenses of education; after completing academic and legal education in this way entered the practice of law at Dayton, Tenn., Oct., 1889; at present attorney for the Co. of Rhea and City of Dayton, which offices he has held for several years; active advocate of passage and enforcement of temperance laws; member of the State Committee of Independent Democrats from 4th Congressional District; junior member of law firm of Miller & Swafford; attorney for the Dayton Coal & Iron Co., Ltd., and for numerous concerns owning coal and timber lands; also attorney for the Dayton Bank & Trust Co.; Methodist. Circuit Court Clerk; born Litton, (Bledsoe Co) Tenn., Dec. 7, 1876; Scotch-Irish descent; son of Aaron and Eliza (Taylor) Swafford; father farmer; paternal grandparents James A. and Martha (Hall) Swafford; maternal grandparents Isaac and Elizabeth (Barker) Taylor; educated in Academic Course at Grand View, Tenn. May, 1903; began his career as teacher in the public schools; married Gertrude Kelly Aug. 22, 1906; member Knights of Pythias, being Chancellor Commander of his lodge (Past Noble Grand), Odd Fellows; elected Sheriff, 1904, serving two terms; elected Circuit Court Clerk, 1906, serving four years; re-elected in 1910, which office he now holds; Republican; member M.
