I am glad to see Stephen Ballard begin a search for Samuel Ballard, in his Ballard of Virginia letter, The Samuel and Alexander Ballard he is starting with for the most part does not match the line, that we are searching for, the line we are trying to find is.....
Stephen, I have official papers ( Dawes ) of the Ballards that are Cherokee,( Samuel Ballard,wont be on the Dawes it didn't exist, but he is on the Henderson Emigrant Cherokee, Prior to the Trail of Tears, myself I am from Samuel Ballard and Susie Youngwolf, They had my 3rd Great Grand Father Alexander Ballard who married Catherine and Lucy Swimmer. ( Lucy died young and he married her sister Catherine, and it is not clear which one for sure had Thomas ) Alexander was also married to Rachel Kirkpatrick, her family name was shortened to Patrick ( This line is well known Cherokee Line ), back to Thomas Ballard son of Alexander, Thomas my 2nd Great Grand Father married Caroline Elizabeth Romine, they had my Great Grand Father William Ballard who married Sallie Rattlinggourd, daughter of Rebecca Smith and Thomas Rattlinggourd ( Rebecca was sister of Chief Red Bird Smith of the Keetoowah Cherokee ) daughter of Pig " Smith " ( Pig was given the last name Smith by the people that knew him since he was a " Blacksmith " and Lizzy Hildebrand. William and Sallie were the parents of David Ute Ballard who married Ruby Esther Fisher from Peel Ark..I am contact with several cousins from Samuel Ballard & Nellie, Diana Otterlifter, and have contact ( or did ) Samuel Ballard and Sarah Drumgoole.

This Samuel Ballard does not match that I see.
When you start looking at names that are Indian everything can get confusing,, as I stated 4th Great Grand Parents Samuel Ballard married Susie Youngwolf, Susie Youngwolf was the daughter of Youngwolf Conrad and Jennie Taylor,, Youngwolf Conrad had a brother Conrad Rattlinggourd,, now this is the Line of my Great Grand Mother Sallie Rattlinggourd,, there is one more Conrad in my family line and that is another brother Hair ( Hare ) Conrad.. Then they shortened their names to Youngwolf, to " Wolf " Hair just used Hare and not the Original " Hare " The Rattinggourd line in my family did not shorten the name but Great Grand ma's other family went to,, Gourd, R.Gourd, Ratlinggourd, Rattlingourd.. You will find some famous people if you have the history,,
